Class 1 Driver Agency UK

Class 1 drivers on C+E, for trunking, tramping, store deliveries and container work, supplied as temporary cover to operators across the UK.

The problem

Why this seat is hard to fill

Class 1 is the hardest seat to fill at short notice and the easiest to fill badly. A driver who cannot reverse a unit onto a tight bay, or whose DQC lapsed last month, costs more than the empty seat did.

What we check before anyone is confirmed

  • Category C+E on the licence, checked against a live DVLA share code and re-checked every 90 days.
  • Driver Qualification Card in date.
  • Digital tachograph card present and readable.
  • Two work-related references.
  • Right to work verified from original documents.

Shift patterns

Nights and trunking dominate Class 1. Expect start times through the evening and early hours, 4-on-4-off patterns on network trunks and weekend cover on retail replenishment.

Pay and rates

PAYE hourly, paid weekly, with overtime and night-rate uplifts agreed on the booking before the driver is confirmed. Holiday accrues under the Working Time Regulations. Rates are confirmed per booking against the local market, never quoted blind.

Questions, answered

How fast can you supply a Class 1 (C+E) driver?

Same-day cover is possible where the pool allows it and next day is the realistic standard. We would rather decline a booking than confirm one and fail to fill it on the morning.

What do you check before a Class 1 (C+E) driver starts?

Category C+E on the licence, checked against a live DVLA share code and re-checked every 90 days. Driver Qualification Card in date. Digital tachograph card present and readable. Two work-related references. Right to work verified from original documents. Licence entitlements are re-checked every 90 days for as long as a worker is on our books.

How are temporary Class 1 (C+E) drivers paid and invoiced?

PAYE hourly, paid weekly, with overtime and night-rate uplifts agreed on the booking before the driver is confirmed. Holiday accrues under the Working Time Regulations. Rates are confirmed per booking against the local market, never quoted blind. Hours are logged against the booking as a digital timesheet, which you approve or reject with a reason and approved timesheets roll into one consolidated weekly invoice.

Do the Agency Workers Regulations apply?

Yes. After 12 weeks in the same role with the same hirer, an agency worker qualifies for equal treatment on pay and basic conditions. We count that from the first shift and tell you before the threshold lands, not after.
