Class 1 drivers on C+E, for trunking, tramping, store deliveries and container work, supplied to operators in Bristol and the South West as temporary cover.

Bristol and its freight corridors

Why Bristol operators come back

The market around Bristol swings harder with the seasons than most of the UK, because the summer visitor economy lands on the same distribution network that serves the resident population in February.

The freight geography around Bristol runs on the M4, M5 and M32, plus the Port of Bristol at Avonmouth. Operators draw on Avonmouth, Severnside and the M5 junction 16 and 17 parks and the employers booking temporary staff here are typically regional grocery and foodservice distributors supplying hospitality across the West Country.

Long lead distances mean an operator running one driver short often has to buy two shifts of cover, because the round cannot be squeezed into somebody else's remaining hours.

Cover for Bristol is arranged nationally, which is what lets us match the worker to the seat rather than to the postcode. Every driver and warehouse operative is vetted against your booking before confirmation, then travels in for the shift.

The people we supply

Most C+E drivers working temporary shifts drive for more than one operator, so the binding constraint is rarely who is free on the day. It is who has hours left under the road transport working time rules and whether they have declared the work they have already done elsewhere in the reference period.

Site familiarisation is not a form. It is the gatehouse procedure, which trailer number is yours, which bay you have been allocated, where the fuel card works, how the customer's yard runs one-way and who answers the phone at three in the morning when a barrier will not lift. Twenty minutes built into the first shift is cheaper than an hour lost in the middle of it.

Typical shifts

Day-shift multi-drop over long rural rounds, where the constraint is the driving hours rather than the drop count.

Nights and trunking dominate Class 1. Expect start times through the evening and early hours, 4-on-4-off patterns on network trunks and weekend cover on retail replenishment.

A driver has to have taken their daily rest before a shift can lawfully start, so a booking placed mid-afternoon for an overnight start is not competing for effort, it is competing with the clock. Anyone already committed to a shift that day is out, however much they would like the work. A booking placed the day before draws on a far wider group.

Our vetting standard

Same-day where the pool allows — The list below is what gets verified before confirmation. It is deliberately auditable, because your own compliance team may well want to see it.

  • Category C+E on the licence, checked against a live DVLA share code and re-checked every 90 days.
  • Driver Qualification Card in date.
  • Digital tachograph card present and readable.
  • Two work-related references.
  • Right to work verified from original documents.

Rates explained

Nights-out work is priced as a shift plus a night away. The subsistence arrangement is settled with the operator before the driver leaves rather than afterwards. Where a run finishes away from base, how the return leg is treated is written into the booking rather than left to the morning.

Under the Agency Workers Regulations 2010, a worker reaches parity on pay and basic conditions after 12 weeks in the same role. Breaks in service affect the count, which is exactly why it needs tracking rather than estimating.

Current shifts

This board only ever shows real bookings. When it is empty, there is nothing live for this seat today. Leave your details and your licence categories and we will be in touch when there is.

Frequently asked

How quickly can you cover a Class 1 (C+E) driver shift in Bristol?

Same-day cover is possible where the pool allows it and next day is the realistic standard, particularly for bookings placed before mid-afternoon. We would rather tell you we cannot cover a shift than confirm one and fail to fill it on the morning.

What do you check before a Class 1 (C+E) driver starts work in Bristol?

Category C+E on the licence, checked against a live DVLA share code and re-checked every 90 days. Driver Qualification Card in date. Digital tachograph card present and readable. Two work-related references. Right to work verified from original documents. Each is verified against an original or a live source rather than a photocopy and the licence check repeats every 90 days for as long as the worker is available to us.

How does invoicing work for temporary staff in Bristol?

One weekly invoice covering every approved shift, with the assignment reference on each line. The provenance matters more than the format: you should be able to trace any figure back to a specific person on a specific day.
