Reliable temporary van and delivery drivers
Van, multi-drop and courier drivers supplied for seasonal peaks, additional routes, sickness, holidays and rising delivery volumes — checked before assignment and booked by the shift.
Routes do not wait for a recruitment process
Van work fails differently to HGV work. It rarely fails as one large gap. It fails as three routes that need covering on a Tuesday, an extra van the depot did not plan for and a run of absence that lands in the same fortnight as a promotion. The volume moves faster than an establishment can, which is exactly what temporary cover is for.
We supply temporary van and delivery drivers for single days, for a defined peak and as a standing ongoing pattern. Category B licence work does not carry the CPC and tachograph apparatus that HGV work does, so the checks are proportionate — but licence category, endorsements and right to work are still confirmed before anyone is named to you.
Van and delivery roles we supply
- Van drivers — general distribution and depot-to-depot work on a standard Category B licence.
- 3.5 tonne drivers — the upper end of Category B, where vehicle weight and load security still matter.
- Multi-drop drivers — high drop counts, where route discipline and handball tolerance decide whether the day finishes.
- Courier drivers — parcel and consignment work, including scan-based proof of delivery.
- Delivery drivers — home delivery and retail replenishment, including work with a customer at the door.
- Collection drivers — returns, reverse logistics and scheduled collections.
- Same-day delivery drivers — time-critical single-consignment work booked against a committed window.
Where a route needs a second pair of hands rather than a second vehicle, drivers' mates are supplied on the same booking.
What temporary van cover is usually for
Seasonal peaks
Christmas, Black Friday and the trading calendar your sector actually runs on, where volume rises faster than the establishment.
Additional routes
New rounds, split rounds and territory added mid-contract, before anyone knows whether the volume holds.
Sickness and holidays
Short-notice absence and planned leave on rounds that have to run regardless.
Increased delivery volumes
Growth above plan that does not yet justify a permanent head and might never.
Why employers choose Transport Temps
Transport specialists
We understand the pressures involved in transport, logistics and warehouse operations. A vehicle standing because a driver did not arrive is not an HR problem, it is a delivery failure with a customer on the other end of it.
Fast response
Temporary staffing requirements are usually urgent. We work quickly to identify suitable available candidates and we tell you what we can genuinely cover rather than accepting the booking and hoping.
Flexible recruitment
From one shift to an ongoing workforce requirement, the service adapts to your operation. There is no minimum booking and no obligation to keep a worker you did not ask for.
Compliance focused
Candidates are screened and checked before assignment, not afterwards. Licence category, Driver CPC, digital tachograph card and right to work are confirmed before anyone is named to you.
One recruitment partner
HGV drivers, van drivers and warehouse staff through one specialist business, on one booking reference, approved on one timesheet and billed on one consolidated weekly invoice.
Van driver recruitment — questions
What licence does a temporary van driver need?
A standard Category B licence covers vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. We confirm the category, any endorsements and right to work before the driver is confirmed to you. Where a role needs more than Category B, it is an HGV booking and is handled on that basis.
Can you supply van drivers for a seasonal peak?
Yes. Peak cover is booked as a block rather than shift by shift, which gives both sides certainty. Tell us the window, the daily head count and the shift and we will confirm what we can hold.
Do you supply multi-drop drivers?
Yes. Multi-drop is one of the most commonly requested van roles and one where the drop count and the handball expectation should be stated at booking, because they decide who will accept the shift and stay on it.
Can a temporary van driver become permanent?
Yes, on a temp-to-perm basis with a transfer fee agreed before the assignment starts rather than after you decide you want to keep somebody.
How quickly can a van driver start?
Same-day where availability allows, next day as the realistic standard. Van cover is generally easier to fill at short notice than Class 1, but availability still depends on the area and the shift.
Tell us who you need
Give us the class, the count, the dates and the shift. We confirm what we can cover and say plainly when we cannot.
