Class 1 drivers on C+E, for trunking, tramping, store deliveries and container work, supplied to operators in Ivybridge and the South West as temporary cover.

Ivybridge and its freight corridors

Why Ivybridge operators come back

Ivybridge is a long way from the national distribution centres, so most goods arrive on a regional leg and are re-handled locally before they go anywhere.

The freight geography around Ivybridge runs on the M5 south of Exeter, the A30, the A38 Devon Expressway, the A390 and A361, Cornwall Airport Newquay and the ports at Plymouth, Falmouth and Fowey. Operators draw on Skypark at Clyst Honiton, beside Exeter Airport and the employers booking temporary staff here are typically regional foodservice and drinks distributors supplying hospitality across the peninsula.

Hospitality across the peninsula orders more often and in smaller quantities in season, which raises the drop count and the driver requirement more than the tonnage suggests.

How cover for Ivybridge works: you send the seat, the dates and the shift times. We source against that requirement from a national pool, complete the licence and right-to-work checks, then confirm a named worker who travels to your site.

The people we supply

Most C+E drivers working temporary shifts drive for more than one operator, so the binding constraint is rarely who is free on the day. It is who has hours left under the road transport working time rules and whether they have declared the work they have already done elsewhere in the reference period.

Trunking and store delivery share a licence and very little else. A trunk run rewards punctuality, hours discipline and a clean changeover. A store run is cages, a tail lift, a timed window and a bay behind a shopping centre laid out for a smaller vehicle. A C+E licence does not tell you which of those a driver is good at, so the booking says which job it is.

Typical shifts

Early AM foodservice and drinks deliveries into hotels, pubs and holiday parks, finished before the roads fill up.

Nights and trunking dominate Class 1. Expect start times through the evening and early hours, 4-on-4-off patterns on network trunks and weekend cover on retail replenishment.

Site familiarisation is not a form. It is the gatehouse procedure, which trailer number is yours, which bay you have been allocated, where the fuel card works, how the customer's yard runs one-way and who answers the phone at three in the morning when a barrier will not lift. Twenty minutes built into the first shift is cheaper than an hour lost in the middle of it.

Our vetting standard

Same-day where the pool allows — None of this is a formality. A worker who fails any of these does not get offered the shift and occasionally that means we hand a booking back rather than fill it badly.

  • Category C+E on the licence, checked against a live DVLA share code and re-checked every 90 days.
  • Driver Qualification Card in date.
  • Digital tachograph card present and readable.
  • Two work-related references.
  • Right to work verified from original documents.

Rates explained

Nights-out work is priced as a shift plus a night away. The subsistence arrangement is settled with the operator before the driver leaves rather than afterwards. Where a run finishes away from base, how the return leg is treated is written into the booking rather than left to the morning.

The Agency Workers Regulations 2010 give an agency worker equal treatment on pay and basic conditions after 12 weeks in the same role with the same hirer. That clock starts on the first shift and we surface the count so it is never a surprise on the invoice.

Current shifts

Shifts appear here once they are booked and confirmed. We would rather show you an empty board than an invented one — register your availability and we will match you against what comes in.

Frequently asked

How quickly can you cover a Class 1 (C+E) driver shift in Ivybridge?

Same-day cover is possible where the pool allows it and next day is the realistic standard, particularly for bookings placed before mid-afternoon. We would rather tell you we cannot cover a shift than confirm one and fail to fill it on the morning.

What do you check before a Class 1 (C+E) driver starts work in Ivybridge?

Category C+E on the licence, checked against a live DVLA share code and re-checked every 90 days. Driver Qualification Card in date. Digital tachograph card present and readable. Two work-related references. Right to work verified from original documents. The check happens before confirmation and the record is auditable. If your own compliance team wants to see it, they can, which is the point of keeping it digitally rather than in a drawer.

How does invoicing work for temporary staff in Ivybridge?

One weekly invoice covering every approved shift, with the assignment reference on each line. The provenance matters more than the format: you should be able to trace any figure back to a specific person on a specific day.
