Hire temporary staff, booked by the shift

Transport Temps supplies temporary, ongoing and temp-to-perm workers to transport, logistics and warehouse operations across the UK. Tell us the role, the count, the dates and the shift.

What this solves

Staffing that moves at the speed your operation does

Permanent recruitment answers a question you can plan for. Temporary staffing answers the one you cannot: a driver rings in sick at half past four in the morning, a contract starts three weeks earlier than the tender said, or a peak arrives heavier than the forecast. Those are not hiring problems. They are cover problems and they are measured in hours rather than weeks.

Transport Temps is an employment business. The worker in your yard remains engaged through us and works under your direction. You get the labour and the timesheet, not the payroll, the holiday accrual or the statutory obligations that come with an employee.

Why companies use us

The reasons operations call an agency

  • Sickness cover. Short-notice absence on a shift that has to run anyway, most often on a vehicle that is already loaded.
  • Holiday cover. Planned absence across a shift pattern, where the gap is known weeks ahead and still has to be filled by somebody qualified.
  • Seasonal peaks. Christmas, Black Friday, harvest, back-to-school and the trading calendar your sector runs on rather than the one the retail press writes about.
  • Increased workloads. Volume above plan that does not yet justify a permanent head and might never.
  • Contract wins. New work that starts before a recruitment process could realistically finish.
  • Short-notice requirements. Same-day where availability allows. Next day is the realistic standard and we say so rather than promising same-day and missing it.
  • Night and weekend shifts. The shifts that are hardest to fill permanently and easiest to lose people over.
  • Temporary vacancies. Maternity, paternity, long-term sick and secondment cover, where the seat has to stay warm for a defined period.
  • Temp-to-perm recruitment. Assess somebody in your own operation before you commit to employing them. See temp-to-perm.
  • Ongoing agency workers. A standing number of agency heads as a deliberate part of the establishment, not as an emergency measure.
What we supply

Roles we cover

HGV drivers

Class 1 (C+E), Class 2 (Cat C) and 7.5 tonne (C1), plus the qualification-led seats — ADR, HIAB, Moffett, tanker and refrigerated work.

Van and delivery drivers

Multi-drop, courier, collection and same-day work on a standard Category B licence.

Warehouse staff

Operatives, pickers, packers, goods-in and goods-out, dispatch, forklift, stock control and warehouse administration.

Alongside those, a set of qualification-led desks runs nationally, where a certificate has to be read against the work rather than taken on trust.

Why Transport Temps

Why employers choose Transport Temps

Transport specialists

We understand the pressures involved in transport, logistics and warehouse operations. A vehicle standing because a driver did not arrive is not an HR problem, it is a delivery failure with a customer on the other end of it.

Fast response

Temporary staffing requirements are usually urgent. We work quickly to identify suitable available candidates and we tell you what we can genuinely cover rather than accepting the booking and hoping.

Flexible recruitment

From one shift to an ongoing workforce requirement, the service adapts to your operation. There is no minimum booking and no obligation to keep a worker you did not ask for.

Compliance focused

Candidates are screened and checked before assignment, not afterwards. Licence category, Driver CPC, digital tachograph card and right to work are confirmed before anyone is named to you.

One recruitment partner

HGV drivers, van drivers and warehouse staff through one specialist business, on one booking reference, approved on one timesheet and billed on one consolidated weekly invoice.

How it runs

From booking to invoice

  • You send the booking, by form or by phone. It carries a reference from that moment and every timesheet and invoice line hangs off that reference.
  • We come back with what we can actually cover and what we cannot.
  • The worker is named to you before the shift, with the checks already done rather than done afterwards.
  • The site brief goes to the worker in writing — start time, address, gate contact, vehicle and what the run looks like.
  • Hours are logged against the booking reference as a digital timesheet.
  • You approve or reject each timesheet. A rejection carries a reason rather than a silence.
  • Approved timesheets roll into one consolidated weekly invoice covering every booking you ran that week.

The full sequence is set out on how it works. What we check before anybody is confirmed is on compliance and vetting.

Hiring temporary staff — questions

How quickly can you supply temporary staff?

Same-day is possible where availability allows and next day is the realistic standard. The honest answer depends on the class, the location and the shift — a Class 1 night trunk in a thin area is a different proposition to a warehouse operative on days in a city. We tell you what we can cover before you plan around it.

Is there a minimum booking?

No. A single shift is a valid booking. Ongoing requirements are booked the same way and simply repeat.

Who employs the worker?

Transport Temps does. We are an employment business, which means the worker remains engaged through us and works under your direction. You are not taking on an employee, a payroll or holiday accrual.

What checks are done before somebody arrives?

Right to work, licence category, Driver CPC position and digital tachograph card for driving roles. For forklift work it is the certificate read against the truck type. Those are confirmed before the worker is confirmed to you. The detail is on the compliance and vetting page.

How are hours recorded and charged?

Hours are logged against the booking reference as a digital timesheet, which you approve or reject line by line. A rejection has to carry a reason. Approved lines roll into one consolidated weekly invoice.

Can a temporary worker become permanent?

Yes. That is temp-to-perm and it is a normal, expected outcome rather than a breach of anything. A transfer fee applies and the terms are set out before the assignment starts, not after you decide you want to keep somebody.
